ball point pen doodles
I just had a discussion with a nice, but I think very misinformed guy on Twitter, where he said that the reason so few comics are written by women (I guess he doesn’t count alt comics, webcomics, mini comics and manga as ‘comics’) was because women simply are not interested in writing them.
So I am checking here and on Twitter.
If you identify as female, and you have some aspirations, even far-off ones, to make comics of some kind, can you post here and let us know?
I just am curious if there is a genuine paucity of women wanting into the comics creation business.
I’d like too. I make small, one page comics, I’ve been going to the local monthly comic jam for years, and I’m part of Cloudscape (a local comic collective of people who self-publish, I have some creatures going in their next book). I attend local indi comic cons and hope to go Rose City this year, I even went to ECC once.
I don’t have dreams of creating for big publishers, I feel strongly about creating my own material. Obviously I’ll never be doing it as a main source of income. But I’ll always be doing my own thing.

here tumblr, have some more shapes
I mean, I have no idea what else I’m going to use all these inks for. I have so much ink, my god.
I got some cheap bottles of ink at the Terminal flea market (where everything is either a knock off, an over priced antique, or stolen).
Laid the green ink down with a dollar-store paint brush, I didn’t want to ruin my nice ones. Liked the scratchy effect though.
put down some black ink…with my left hand.
Fixed it up with my right.
I went down to Seattle a while ago and picked up a very small pad of water colour paper. I going to just….lay colour down and see what happens.
I inked Kits-yotie twice, tried to make her a bit more lively with my dip pen. I got to stop being a baby about backgrounds, but there’s only so much effort I’m willing to put into these.
You would not believe how long I sat on the floor in front of my mirror trying to get the hand right. My foot fell asleep.
hey I tweeted a bunch of stuff from my sketch book a while ago. We have some weird things, a self-aware house, a shitty sphinx, 4 Necks, and some more weird things. My sketch book is kind of a wreck.
I’ve heard of him, years ago someone mentioned that I should check out his stuff. It’s pretty weird and I like it. I think I should get one his super-detailed prints, hang it my wall, and draw “where’s Waldo” in there somewhere.
